Johannes David was van Kopenhagen, Denemarke. In 1750 is hy op die Deense skip Elephant wat naby Mosselbaai strand. Die spelling v.d. van verander mettertyd in die doopboeke v. Tulbagh, op 16.8.1761 nog Grootschel in 1771 Grisschel en in 1794 Grisel, teen 1800 Griesel.

Johannes married Anna Maria Jacoba PELSER on 11 May 1760. Anna (daughter of Abraham PELSER and Engela Catharina ZAAIJMAN) was born about 1745. [Group Sheet]
