Notes:

John Ross, 2nd Lord Ross of Halkhead was born before 1478 at Halkhead, Renfewshire, Scotland. He was the son of Robert Ross and Agnes Melville (b. b 1458, d. b 6 Oct 1478).

He was retoured heir of his mother in the barony of Melville on 16 May 1496 indicating he was of age at the time.

He appears in Royal Charters, as John, Lord Ross of Halkhede, knight, from 11 March 1502 (new calendar).

He was killed at the battle of Flodden 9 September 1513
