    Waltheof was involved in a revolt, although he never openly rebelled against the King. Nevertheless, he was jailed and after more than a year was executed by beheading on St Giles's Hill outside Winchester on 31 May 1076

    The burial location of Gundrada and her husband, William, was lost until 1845-47 when the railway to Brighton was built across the priory site. Among the finds were lead caskets thought to be the bones of William de Warenne and his wife Gundrada, the founders of the priory. The lead caskets in which the bones were found are decorated with rope-mouldings and diagonal ornamentation, inscribed WILLEMS and GUNDRADA respectively. Also found was the black marble tombstone of Gundrada. The bones found in 1845 were reburied under the stone. All are located in a special chapel in the parish church of St. John the Baptist, Southover High Street in Lewes, East Sussex.

    Gundrada died in child-birth on 27 May 1085 at Castle Acre and was buried in the chapter-house at Lewes.[2] Most of the inscription on her tombstone, which begins with Stirps Gundrada ducum has worn away, and the black marble tombstone has been relocated to St John's Church, Southover (Lewes)

    Hugh I was born in 1057. He was the son of Henry I of France and Anne of Kiev. Hugh I was wounded and later died i Turkey while on the Crusade of 1101
